English? YUCK!

Do you know those people who seem to suck the fun out of whatever it is you're doing? The ones who MUST abide EVERY rule?
Normally, and I hate to admit it, I am one of those people. Though my husband has diligently tried to break me of it, there are some things I just can't seem to get away from. I'm not an uptight person and I'd like to think I can easily shrug things off and let things go, but in some areas, I WILL NOT give up the rules!
In thinking this, I was reminded of a conversation with a friend. She was taking a writing class from someone who drives me batty! I'm sure she's a good writer, though I've never read her work. And in all honesty, I received some good advice from her once. That being said, the woman drives me nuts in her knowledge of the English language! (I'm such a hypocrite!)
I have always HATED the subject of English. The only time that I enjoyed it, in school, was when I was allowed to create something! Trying to remember all the rules and proper wording of things has always made me crazy. Don't get me wrong, I like people to speak intelligently, (and not in text talk) but I can't stand it when people tell me I can't write something because it breaks the rules!
Who invented the rules anyway? That's what I'd like to know! I thought our language was a melting pot from just about everywhere! (don't quote me on that!) So what if I want to put an adverb in front of something! So what if I want to use 'and' or 'but' to begin every sentence.
*yelling* "I'm feeling smothered here! There are too many rules to remember!"
Ach!
Oh well. Perhaps that's why I create and then let other go through and say, "No, you can't put that there. You have to say it like this..." :) Who knows. Maybe with helpful, knowledgeable friends, I may actually learn a few of those rules some day! :)
Happy Kisses to you all!

From someone who also thinks beginning sentences with "and" or "but" should be allowed, may I say BRAVO! Enjoyed the post.
